© ngs, SO40 9AH 2011  Welcome to Europe’s Leading White Salt Importer SALT STORAGE NGS is able to offer the ultimate answer to resilience stock and  guaranteed salt supply at no extra cost. NGS provides the perfect answer to resilience and guaranteed salt  supply.....HOW? By offering free storage and management of salt stocks. That means if a customer buys stocks now, NGS will store this stock free  and manage all the handling of getting the salt to where it needs to be and when it needs to be there for no additional costs. If a  customer don't use all the salt in the winter for which it was ordered, NGS will continue to store the stock free until the following winter.    Therefore there is only one way in making sure you do not suffer salt shortages........  To keep resilience stock totalling 1 extra winters worth - it is as simple as that!  Buy stock in the summer when there is less demand and rush. The  prices will be as low as they get. The salt should be stored where it is needed to the max level allowed. The resilience stock should then be  stored at a place where there is no storage charge, and where if the  salt is not used, then it carries over and is stored free to the following  year.   THE SIMPLE ANSWER IS - NGS You are bound to ask yourself the following questions, which NGS is able to answer - not from a Hypocritical  standpoint - but from a standpoint of having NOT run out of salt and  having supplied (when nobody else could) in the winter just gone: 1.STORAGE Where would the salt be stored? The salt would be stored at Southampton Port Would it be insured? The salt would be fully insured and the customer's interest would be noted Would the salt be well kept? White salt is better kept out in the open without any cover as per NGS practice. The salt keeps very well indeed with very minimal loss. All NGS salt is fully anti caked therefore can be kept outside not just for months but for years without any problem. 2.What is the impact on cost and cash flow? The cost of white salt is traditionally more than brown rock salt.  However brown rock salt is never available at times of high demand. Brown rock salt must be  stored under cover which is very inconvenient and very expensive.  Furthermore Brown rock salt is much less pure than white salt and so it takes longer to work and  needs a lot more tracking in. Buying white salt in the summer low demand time ensures the price is very  reasonable for such an effective, clean, natural and sustainable product. The stock then goes on the balance sheet. The HUGE disadvantage is that it impacts on CASH FLOW. The reality  is that the salt is a commodity and so instead of cash at bank, salt  stocks exist on the financials. However there is no solution we can suggest to the  negative impact on cash flow. This salt listed in stock is used as and when needed when other supply routes of  brown salt do not work in times of high demand or whenever depots  need topping up with the stocks. 3.Is there any degradation of the product if kept for prolonged periods? There is no degradation in white salt stock when kept. This should not be any kind of concern whatsoever. White marine salt naturally has a higher moisture content which gives it its qualities or being able to work faster and spread better without the need for pre-wetting.  NGS keep extremely well and NGS is well known for supplying the highest of quality salt. 4. What if all the product is not needed for the winter it is ordered for? If the product is not needed it can be left to be used the following winter. The salt stock is simply carried over with no extra cost whatsoever. The free storage continues until the following year. 5. How does NGS guarantee getting the salt to where it is needed when it is needed? NGS uses trains, trucks, barges, coasters and ships to deliver salt from the Southampton port. NGS is able to get truck loads to customer within 24/48 hours,  although this should never be needed as the depots should be  stocked up as they use salt daily in cold periods. NGS monitors all  customer stocks levels to ensure the stocks do not fall. NGS operates 24hours per day and is fully functional 24hours per day 365 days per year. This allows NGS to be the market leader in reactive salt supply solutions. NGS has the ability to load any mode of transport within hours of the order night or day. All key staff are contactable 24 hours per day and the operations at the NGS salt hub are continuous. 6. How much Salt should be bought?  This is a matter the relevant business/body to make taking into  account its cash flow, risk assessments and needs. See example below:    EXAMPLE:  SALTY COUNCIL IN SALTVILLE SPREADS 10 TONS OF SALT PER  COLD NIGHT.  THIS COUNCIL HAS AN AVERAGE OF 50 SPREADS NIGHTS PER YEAR. THIS THEREFORE AMOUNTS TO 500 TONS ON AN AVERAGE PER YEAR USAGE.  THIS COUNCIL CAN STORE 200 TONS.    THIS COUNCIL SHOULD APPRECIATE IT COULD SALT 20 DAYS 3 TIMES PER DAY, PLUS ITS NORMAL ROUTINE OF A FURTHER 30  NIGHTS. THEREFORE THIS USAGE WOULD THEN GO UP TO 900 TONS FOR A COLDER SEVERE YEAR.  THE COUNCIL SHOULD PURCHASE FROM NGS BETWEEN 1000 AND 1500 TONS  OF SALT AND IT WOULD OWN THAT SALT. NGS WOULD STORE THAT SALT FREE.  NGS WOULD DELIVER 200 TONS TO THE SALTVILLE COUNCIL STORAGE  DEPOT SO IT WAS FULL TO MAXIMUM CAPACITY.  NGS WOULD MONITOR WEATHER AND DEPOT STOCK TO  ENSURE THEY DELIVERED SALT TO THE DEPOT EVERY TIME  THE DEPOT USED SALT FOR ITS RUNS.  NGS WOULD BE ABLE TO INCREASE DELIVERIES IN TIMES OF  HIGH DEMAND.  THE COUNCIL WOULD OWN THE SALT AND SO THEY WOULD BE  ABLE TO CALL ON THE STOCK AS THEY DICTATED AND THEY  WOULD NOT SUFFER HIGH PRICES OR SHORTAGE ON A SEVERE YEAR THE COUNCIL MAY WELL HAVE USED 1300  TONS. THEY THEN PURCHASE A FURTHER 1300 TONS AND  ADD TO THE 200 THEY HAVE LEFT IN STORAGE, AND WAIT AGAIN FOR THE COMING YEAR.    ON A MILD YEAR THEY MAY USE 250 TONS. IN WHICH CASE  THEY BUY A FURTHER 250 TONS INTO STORAGE WITH  NGS, AND WAIT FOR THE COMING YEAR.    IN SUMMARY:    A) THE RESILIENCE STOCK LEVEL MUST BE REALISTIC  B) THE SALT MUST BE PURCHASED EARLY SO PRICES ARE  REASONABLE AND QUALITY GOOD  C) THE STORAGE MUST BE FREE  D) THE LOGISTICS FROM THE PLACE OF STORAGE MUST  BE CAPABLE OF OPERATING AT HIGH CAPACITY 24 HOURS  IF CALLED UPON  E) A COMMITMENT HAS TO BE MADE FROM CASH FLOW -  THERE IS NO WAY OUT OF THIS - EFFECTIVELY THE  BUSINESS IS BUYING CURRENT AND FUTURE YEARS  SALT SUPPLY IN ONE GO - this reflects on balance sheet  F) THE SUPPLIER USED MUST BE REPUTABLE AND  PROVEN TO BE HONOURABLE IN HONOURING THE  PROMISE OF ANSWERING INTERACTION AT TIMES OF HIGH  DEMAND - MUST HAVE A PROVEN TRACK RECORD  EXPERTISE IN STORAGE, HANDLING AND DELIVERY.  BUILDING AN EXTRA BARN FOR A LITTLE EXTRA SALT IS OF  NO USE. RESILIENCE STOCK IS NOT AN EXTRA FEW  NIGHTS WORTH OF SALT. RESILIENCE IN THE  MEANINGFUL SENSE SHOULD MEAN AT LEAST AN EXTRA 1  YEARS WORTH OF STOCK. Whatever decision a business makes assessing risk of severe weather and rise in prices - The NGS promise embraces all no matter what decision they make - NGS guarantees salt supply - either by way of early purchase and free storage or by way of ad hoc purchases when it is most needed.
